So – do you know how hard it is to make a dog smile???

Frankly, it’s not that hard to make a dog smile. Trying to make a dog smile while in the right position for the remote lighting and a festive background – that’s a different story!christmascard2008blog Then add the wonders of the Nikon Creative Lighting System, which sends out a bazillion pre-flashes before taking the shot which causes pretty much any subject I’ve ever photographed with it to blink, and let me tell you – the challenge is on! Don’t get me wrong; Nikon CLS is a wonderful lighting system. It eliminates all those bothersome flash cords, you can control all the remotes from the commander, no external power supply needed, etc. But did I mention the blinking part? I took 28 shots of Harriet for our Christmas Card and had a grand total of 5 to choose from with her eyes open. Granted, CLS is portable and pretty slick overall. But the blinking… (I did mention that – correct?) I think the best part about using our studio lighting both in the studio and on location is that there is one flash when we pull the trigger. Normally, by the time the subject blinks, we have the shot. Frankly, we’re all pretty proud around here when one of our subjects tells us they are a blinker and we nail shot after shot… Sure, we get  blink from time to time, but not too often. And aside from powering the lights, our studio setup is also wireless.

So go ahead – try and blink! We’ll see who gets the shot… 🙂
